Special Guests
Here are some names of note who have visited the Centre.

GAC has welcomed individual members of the Dundee AS
over the years. This time we welcomed a group of seven
members - Pam, Dave, Mike, Ken, Phil, Steve & Allan
(who missed the picture). Four stayed at the Centre, the
others at a local B&B. Despite poor weekend weather
everyone enjoyed the sightseeing and the time to sit and
talk astronomy. We look forward to seeing them all again in
the future..
We were very pleased to welcome Claire Price - familiar to
many as DS Siobhan Clark in the TV series “Rebus”. Claire
enjoyed an evening observing the gems of the Autumn sky
and also a spectacular fireball. Then up earty to see Venus,
Mars and Saturn plus the Orion Nebula.
We welcomed Louise and Simon of the Star Centre,
Keighley (www.starcentre.org). Louise instructs scouts,
brownies, guides and school children through the extensive
exhibition. Here they learn about science by undertaking
space missions or even driving a remote control rover
across a realistic Mars landscape.
Simon uses his radio amateur experience to receive live
weather satellite imagesor communicate with the ISS. With
clear skies each night they made the most of it observing
deep sky objects, watched the Shuttle launch, the passage
of the ISS and saw many meteors.
We were pleased to welcome Ian Morison, who is
Operations Engineer at Jodrell Bank Observatory and
Gresham College lecturer in Astronomy. He is very well
known to astronomical societies across the country.
Unusual in professional astronomy Ian owns several
telescopes and is an active observer, Ian very much
enjoyed his stay and using the Centre's 16 inch telescope.
Ian returned in 2009 while he was giving a lecture at the
Wigtownshire AS Astroday.
We have often worked with Dave Chalton and Dr Stewart
Lynn (right) of the Royal Observatory Edinburgh on
outreach projects. While booked for the Wigtownshire AS
Astroday both decided it was the perfect opportunity to
stay at the Centre. Dave was operating the Starlab an
inflatable planetarium which thrilled adults and children.
While Stewart gave a facinating lecture on whether or not
Dark Matter and Dark Engergy really exist.
We had a beautiful night for viewing DSOs with the 16”
telescope.
