Centre
Galloway Astronomy Centre have been suppliers of Skywatcher and Celestron telescopes for many years.
We are Celestron’s only astronomy specialist supplier in Scotland.
We also offer Optical Hardware binoculars and telescope accessories.
We promise we will not sell you a poor quality telescope
All manufacturers make some - not always - cheap, but definitely nasty telescopes that are not worth the money.
You can find them on Amazon and on several reputable telescope shop websites - but not here.
I will also criticise telescopes when there are aspects I think are poor so you will be aware of any potential
problems,before you spend your cash.
Here are two examples:
The Skywatcher Star Discovery 150 telescope - was a great telescope, but now fitted with WiFi to save money
it can only be controller by a smartphone. Yes you love your phone, but the screen needs to dimmed down to
nothing and change to a red background, but the software still uses white text when it should be red reducing the
night vision you need to see faint objects.
I do list it as it is still a great telescope, but the handset option prices it almost beyond its worth.
The Celestron Astromaster - a very popular beginner telescope on Amazon, but it is shamefully horrible.
The mirrors are always miles out of alignment (I have had to do major re-collimated on every one I have seen and
I’ve seen a lot!) also the one with the inbuilt red dot finder is impossible to use so you can’t find anything. Good
job as the out of alignment optics mean you get a terrible view anyway.
Never sold one and never will.
I know of no other seller will tell you things like this.
Why do I do it?
Because I want you to have a telescope you cannot wait to use not one you wish you had never bought.

is a huge range of telescopes available to suit
all budgets.
However, there are inexpensive good ones and
expensive bad ones, which can make buying a
telescope for the first time very difficult.
Get the wrong one and you could be put off
astronomy forever.

be out with guests on a stargazing tour.

views you can expect to see.
