Weather

If you associate Scotland with rain, rain and more rain, please think again. Scotland is a large country and has a very varied climate.

The Galloway Astronomy Centre is located in the far southwest area of Dumfries & Galloway which is known to have a much lower annual rainfall than further east towards Dumfries.

The region of Galloway has its own microclimate; the mild winter climate is as a result of the Gulf Stream.

We are at relatively low level and close to the coast so it is very common for the us to have sunny days and clear nights while further inland it can be very cloudy or raining.
