Your Personal Trainer for the Stars

It is a little ironic that Astronomy has become a very popular hobby while the night sky most people observe has become very badly effected by light pollution.

Modern technology has helped experienced amateurs to compensate for the poor conditions, but this does not necessarily help the beginner trying to get to grips with the basics.

It takes time to learn the night sky which is why we will help you to recognise Pegasus from Perseus or Cassiopeia from Cygnus, plus how to find the brighter deep sky objects visible in binoculars or small telescopes. If needed we will even operate the 16 inch for you so you will not miss a thing.

Alternatively, you can sit back and enjoy a "real sky" planetarium tour. We use a powerful green laser pointer to indicate the constellations, tell you the origin of their names and use our computer controlled 8 inch telescope to show the deep sky wonders of nebula, star clusters and galaxies.

At the Galloway Astronomy Centre we offer to provide as much guidance and tuition as you want to get the most out of your stay – all at no extra charge.

Should you already own a telescope, but find difficulty using it (and you would not be the first) why not bring it with you. We can check the alignment of the optics or give advice on using your telescope.
