The Cottage

Craiglemine Cottage was built around 1840 and was extensively rebuilt and modernised in 1991.

Surrounded by the broad rolling fields of rural western Dumfries & Galloway at the Galloway Astronomy Centre we enjoy wide views of uninterrupted sky and landscape.

As you can see from the UK map the area remains one of the least light polluted parts of the UK.

With a clear western horizon we see some beautiful sunsets and many types of atmospheric phenomena are often visible.

Within the half acre of our own grounds is the roll off roof observatory. There is also plenty of open space for children to play and a large plot for growing our own vegetables.

For the summer time our two environmentally friendly mowers, commonly known as sheep, have been in operation.

Helen is currently investigating the history of the cottage as there is some evidence it may be even older than we believe.
